my english book review that i've written:

An autistic savant who can list all the prime numbers up to 7,057, Christopher John Francis Bone’s not so good with emotion, and since the story related in Mark Haddon’s delightful first murder mystery novel, “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” concerns the dissolution of his parents marriage and the precarious nature of the care he needs to survive, we have to read between his lines.

The victim of the murder mystery is Wellington, a large poodle with black fur owned by Eileen Shears, turns up dead, by “garden fork”, shortly after midnight. Christopher discovers the body because he’s a night owl, favoring the hours of “3am or 4am in the morning when I can walk up and down the street and pretend that I am the only person in the world”. Christopher, who wishes to solve the murder of Wellington, finds another mystery as a result. The initiator of chaos is the murderer of Wellington, a mystery Christopher chooses to solve. This turns out to be Christopher’s father, Ed Boone, who brings further turmoil with his deception regarding the death of Christopher’s mother. Typically, the protagonist prevails and the antagonist suffers: the good guy wins and the bad guy loses.

The search for order and stability is the first major theme of the novel. For Christopher, the desire for order and stability is actually a necessity of living; he suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism, he needs an ordered and stable life to be happy and safe. Anything that jeopardizes this not only damages his mental state, but also brings him physical pain. The title of the book – a reference to the Sherlock Holmes mystery “The Adventure of Silver Blaze” – points to the other major theme of the novel: the role of absences in life, and how people often fail to see the significance of what is not there. The novel is double mystery, and the second mystery deals with the absence of his mother, which Christopher had accepted the way the silence of the dog in “ The Adventure of Silver Blaze” was mistakenly accepted as normal in that story.

As compared to the second adult novel by Mark Haddon, “A Spot of Brother”, both novels deal with mental health issues from the point-of-view of the patient. In “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time”, my favorite character is also the book’s autistic narrator; Christopher is gifted at and focused on Mathematics. The book also includes the unlikely incident of seeing four yellow cars in a row which is bad, an event which holds significance to the narrator, who has an aversion to the color yellow. Christopher’s way of believing was what made him different from the others. For example, remembering a particularly excruciating vacation in France, he writes, “ people go on holidays to see new things and relax, but it wouldn’t make me relaxed and you can see new things by looking at the Earth under a microscope or drawing the shape of the solid made when 3 circular rods of equal thickness intersect at right angles.”

The reason why I like this book and why I would recommend this book to another person is the same. Christopher’s narration is precise and reliable about objective facts but his view of the story’s events is often very different from what might be expected. Through his narration, we see the scene whereby Christopher was nearly killed by an oncoming train unfold completely, but he remains unaware of the danger he is in and of the closeness of his brush with death. It has a very simple surface, but there are layers of irony and paradox all the way through it.

Anyone would like this book because here is a fiction about a character who says he can only tell the truth, he can not tell lies but he gets everything wrong. Here is a narrator who seems to be hugely ill-equipped for writing a book because he cannot understand other people’s emotions, he misses the bigger picture and yet it makes him incredibly well suited to narrate a book. He never explains too much. He never tries to persuade the reader to feel about things this way or that way but once you slip into the world as he sees it, you feel surprisingly comfortable.

anyway note to hewei: your blog you wrote sec1squad neh, we sec2 lerhs. and is not de-stress is to relieve stress and also not release stress like some others will write. i learnt this in school during english lesson today!

sat campcraft also my erjie's birthday. then morning go school, then i was the first to reach like for the rest of the 4 girlsssss. then jeanette sili xinyi and kamy. then kamy told us her dream about hewei. I WAS LIKE LAUGHING LIKE SHIET LUH,LIKE OMG. then i kept singing songs and talking in cheena accent and some other lame stuffs i did. and when last round i untying the things i was like untying la, then weiyang was like wai ting suddenly become so emo. WHAT YOU EXPECT LA, I MUST MAKE NOISE WHEN I UNTYING THINGS MEH. this is call FOCUS, another f word. and please dont say things when you do not have enough evidence to support what you say.

just now i when walking out from school after assembly, i was telling brenda about kamy's dream, then i board bus 10, and hewei was on the bus. HAHAHA, you didnt see me, neh neh ni poo poo. =.=" ok. then i was like telling brenda, then brenda said smth regarding the dream then i was like practically laughing to my phone, i felt dumb la. and brenda continued saying. OMG, LOL.

on saturday i practically didnt see my erjie the whole day, cause morning wake up then evening reach home. then she went out in the afternoon i think till the next morning 6am+. so i didnt see her the whole dam day and neither did i wish her a happy birthday.

then when i reach home after campcraft, i was like bathe eat use com till 8+ and i was watching mo fan bang bang tang. then got this episode i think all guys should watch. OK, its dam useful if you are trying to win a girl's heart. after than i cannot tahan and i slept till the next morning 10+. watched underdog ytd on dvd, wanted to like watch no reservations but other people rented it.

there's chinese and acc test tomorrow.
i am watching e zuo ju 2 wen now.

actually i had a dream of ncos ytd, and the main nco was yixin nco. like wth, and she's like my friend. or what so ever, i had a shock when i woke up you know. i dreamt till the part where the guy ncos were like sitting on the floor at the cinema there eating nachos and some chips. gdness.

today was kinda a tiring day for me cause i didnt had enough sleep i guess.
on saturday after campcraft training i slept at 7pm till sunday morning 10am. then after that i slept again at 2pm till 4pm. ok, i slept for very long, but i was exhausted ok. and yesterday me and my sisters were talking about cold jokes until around 12. i wanted to sleep but i couldnt.

anyway, today's lesson was chem hcl recess maths dnt maths english break interaction period.

chem i sort of understand all of the properties of acids, and theres a test coming up in week 8 and another one in week 10. then hcl read storybk and then did gong han. i was surprised to find like 2 stories in my storybk, i didnt know. and ya, brenda lent me the chinese vers of vampire knight. i cannot read english manga, cause they are so lack of feelings. i cannot relate to them. then erm recess stayed in class and did the chem ws and maths. then maths was boring as usual... dnt, omg luh mr sim is so weird. YA, like wth. ok and he's so naggy. maths was boring again.

english we did like a group discussion. brenda said smth which made me cry. meaning laughed till cry. she told geoffery "like as if you all are disgusting." LIKE OMG, i laughed till siao, cause it was meant to be like as if you all are discussing. I LAUGHED TILL nicholas said my ears were red, i can feel the heat la. ok. then break didnt eat again and then around 2.15 went to fancy ground there. i was listening to my mp3 to cao ge's songs. i am really sorry if i lag or smth. i lag ok. i lag, im sorry if i caused any incovenience cause i think i did. im sorry xinfinite. CAO GE RAWKS more than yang zong wei. told many cold jokes today, im sorry if i sent you to north pole, but ya.

im sorry for dozing off halfway through interaction period, and worst thing i was sitting in front. did mr loh see? cause half the time he was talking to brenda who was sitting beside me. assembly is dumb and going home is dumb. and sleeping is hurray! learning my ting xie now, and i shall go and pester my korr.
